One Life, One Rose
Our Lady of Guadalupe Silver Rose Run
Our Lady of Guadalupe Silver Rose Run – One Life, One Rose
During the months of April and May, 2014 six Silver Roses began making their way across North America, from Canada and through the United States. Four of the roses will travel through Texas before going on to Mexico. One Silver Rose will begin in Ontario and complete its run in Washington, D.C. and another will begin in New Brunswick and finish in Connecticut. The four Roses going to Mexico will conclude their journey on Dec. 12, 2014, the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the Americas, at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Monterrey, Mexico. The other two roses will have similar ceremonies to conclude their journeys, also on Dec. 12, 2014.
It is the 55th year of the program which began in 1960 as a project of the Columbian Squires of North America to honor the Blessed Virgin under her title of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the Americas. The program has continued since then as a project of Squires Circles, councils and Fourth Degree assemblies in several jurisdictions.
In 2001 Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson expanded the program by beginning the “Running of the Rose” from the 119th Annual Meeting of the Supreme Council in Toronto. “The ‘Running of the Rose’ is a perfect program for the Knights of Columbus,” said Supreme Knight Anderson. “Through it we honor not only Our Lady of Guadalupe and express the unity of the Order, but we also reaffirm the Order’s dedication to the sanctity of human life. It is to the Blessed Mother that we turn in prayer as we work to end the Culture of Death that grips our society. As we think in terms of ‘One Life, One Rose,’ it is most appropriate that we turn to Our Lady of Guadalupe who made known her will through Juan Diego and the miracle of the roses.”
In 2014, The Silver Rose will travel through Missouri starting on August 10th in Canton, MO. From Canton it will travel to Macon, Moberly, Centralia, Troy, O’Fallon, Dardenne, St. Peters, Overland, Creve Coeur, Chesterfield, Ballwin, Oakville, Fenton, Sullivan, Rolla, Bloomsdale, Oran, ending its Missouri run on August 31st in Charleston. The Rose will be transferred to Paducah, Kentucky for the next leg of its journey. You can view the entire Silver Rose Run itinerary include dates and locations on the mokofc.org website.

The Story Behind the Running of the Silver Rose
Our Lady of Guadalupe has done so much for her people and country that an assembly of young men called the Columbian Squires associated with the Knights of Columbus wanted to give something back to her.
