Meet Life Campaign

 MISSOURI KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS

 MEET LIFE CAMPAIGN

MeetLifeHeader

Would you give $50 to save the life of a baby? Of course each of us would, and now you have that chance. At the Annual Organizational meeting of the Missouri State Council Knights of Columbus in July of 2011, the Missouri State Council announced a bold initiative with a goal of reducing the number of abortions by Missouri residents by 50% by the end of 2016.

The Meet Life Campaign expands the Ultrasound Initiative begun by the Supreme Council in 2009, and places ultrasound machines in pregnancy resource centers in Missouri offering women a free ultrasound image of their unborn child and giving them the opportunity to choose life for their child. To date, Missouri Knights have placed 34 machines across the State. In the 2013 calendar year more than 1,600 babies were saved from abortion as a direct result of the Meet Life Campaign.

This exciting campaign uses the expertise of In His Image Ultrasound to target appropriate centers for placement of these machines, and also includes the expertise of Vitae Foundation to develop a multimedia campaign to get the message to women who are at risk of choosing an abortion.

The State Council has asked each Council to pledge $50 per member over five years to accomplish this goal. Councils can ask their members to contribute or host fundraisers to meet this pledge. Councils are also encouraged to conduct Baby Bottle Campaigns in their Parishes to raise funds for this important effort.

This is an exciting and wonderful opportunity to bring about a culture of life and the Knights of Columbus are leading the way. Please support this most important campaign.

 Missouri Knights of Columbus

 “MEET LIFE” Baby Bottle Campaign

The Missouri Knights of Columbus have always been leaders in respecting and protecting the lives of the unborn. conducting a Baby Bottle Campaign is an easy and effective way to raise funds for the Meet Life program, which is helping to reduce the number of abortions by placing ultrasound machines in pregnancy resource centers throughout the state. If every Council and Auxiliary joins us and conducts a “Meet Life” Baby Bottle Campaign, we can meet our goal of reducing abortion in Missouri by 50% by 2016.

Guidelines for a successful fund raiser:

  • First, meet with your pastor to gain his approval and to set a tentative date for the campaign and share with him everything the Knights have done in the campaign and how successful we have been.
  • Request bottles from a Baby Bottle Board diocese coordinator. There are four (4) separate Boards formed within the state each being responsible for the Councils in their respective diocese. These boards are known as:
    • Baby Bottle Board of Metro St. Louis
      • Members: Bob Thalhammer–2951, Matt Nowak–1121, Brian Rash–11139, Dale Werner–14402
    • Baby Bottle Board of Kansas City
      • Members: Larry Pearce-4613, Mike Jarrett-4962, David Chapman-14972
    • Baby Bottle Board of Jefferson City
      • Members: Richard Wieberg-1171, Mitch Passini-2627, Brett Witte-1752
    • Baby Bottle Board of Springfield/Cape Girardeau
      • Members: David Buckley–10200, John Nabity–12650, Dr Milton Eichmann–1706, Brian Ziegler–6420
    • These boards are to be used to encourage and assist Knights of Columbus Councils conducting a successful Baby Bottle Campaign in their Parishes.
  • Select a Knight who is comfortable with public speaking to make a pulpit presentation
  • Place a full page ad in the church bulletin the week before the presentation
  • Make sure you have several Knights to hand out bottles after Mass
  • Distribute bottles to your church organizations (the Parish school, PSR, Scouts, etc., and don't forget the Ladies Auxiliary)
  • Use your bulletin for reminders to bring their bottles back on a designated date bottles (around four weeks) and have Knights in the back of church to receive the bottles
  • When the Campaign is over please return the bottles to your diocesan coordinator
    • Keep in mind bottles will continue to trickle in so make a plan to get remaining funds turned in
  • Make your check payable to Columbian Charities of Missouri Inc. and mail to Meet Life Coordinator Lou Holtmann

One Life, One Rose

Our Lady of Guadalupe Silver Rose Run

Our Lady of Guadalupe Silver Rose Run – One Life, One Rose

During the months of April and May, 2014 six Silver Roses began making their way across North America, from Canada and through the United States. Four of the roses will travel through Texas before going on to Mexico. One Silver Rose will begin in Ontario and complete its run in Washington, D.C. and another will begin in New Brunswick and finish in Connecticut. The four Roses going to Mexico will conclude their journey on Dec. 12, 2014, the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the Americas, at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Monterrey, Mexico. The other two roses will have similar ceremonies to conclude their journeys, also on Dec. 12, 2014.

It is the 55th year of the program which began in 1960 as a project of the Columbian Squires of North America to honor the Blessed Virgin under her title of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the Americas. The program has continued since then as a project of Squires Circles, councils and Fourth Degree assemblies in several jurisdictions.

In 2001 Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson expanded the program by beginning the “Running of the Rose” from the 119th Annual Meeting of the Supreme Council in Toronto. “The ‘Running of the Rose’ is a perfect program for the Knights of Columbus,” said Supreme Knight Anderson. “Through it we honor not only Our Lady of Guadalupe and express the unity of the Order, but we also reaffirm the Order’s dedication to the sanctity of human life. It is to the Blessed Mother that we turn in prayer as we work to end the Culture of Death that grips our society. As we think in terms of ‘One Life, One Rose,’ it is most appropriate that we turn to Our Lady of Guadalupe who made known her will through Juan Diego and the miracle of the roses.”

In 2014, The Silver Rose will travel through Missouri starting on August 10th in Canton, MO. From Canton it will travel to Macon, Moberly, Centralia, Troy, O’Fallon, Dardenne, St. Peters, Overland, Creve Coeur, Chesterfield, Ballwin, Oakville, Fenton, Sullivan, Rolla, Bloomsdale, Oran, ending its Missouri run on August 31st in Charleston. The Rose will be transferred to Paducah, Kentucky for the next leg of its journey. You can view the entire Silver Rose Run itinerary include dates and locations on the mokofc.org website.

The Story Behind the Running of the Silver Rose

Our Lady of Guadalupe has done so much for her people and country that an assembly of young men called the Columbian Squires associated with the Knights of Columbus wanted to give something back to her.
