 MISSOURI KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS

 MEET LIFE CAMPAIGN

Poster

At the Annual Organizational meeting of the Missouri State Council Knights of Columbus in July of 2011, the Missouri State Council announced a bold initiative with a goal of reducing the number of abortions by Missouri residents by 50% by the end of 2016. As we being our fifth year of this five year campaign it is most important that we reach our goal of $2 million dollars.

The Meet Life Campaign expands the Ultrasound Initiative begun by the Supreme Council in 2009, and places ultrasound machines in pregnancy resource centers in Missouri offering women a free ultrasound image of their unborn child and giving them the opportunity to choose life for their child. To date, Missouri Knights have placed 38 machines across the State. In the 2014 calendar year more than 2,900 babies were saved from abortion as a direct result of the Meet Life Campaign.

This exciting campaign uses the expertise of the Vitae Foundation to develop multimedia campaigns to get the message to women who are at risk of choosing an abortion. We have also partnered with In His Image Ultrasound to target appropriate centers for placement of the ultrasound machines.

The State Council asked each Council to pledge $50 per member over five years to accomplish this goal. We are now in the fifth year of this five year campaign with $600,000 more needing to be raised this year in order to meet our $2 million dollar goal. Councils are also encouraged to conduct Baby Bottle Campaigns in their Parishes to raise funds for this important effort or they can hold a variety of other fundraisers such as a dinner/dance, free will offering breakfast, have a second collection at Mass are some of the options they can use.

This is an exciting and wonderful opportunity to bring about a culture of life and the Knights of Columbus are leading the way. Please support this most important campaign. Please support this most important campaign so that we can successfully reach our goal of raising $2 million dollars by the end of this fraternal year!

 Missouri Knights of Columbus

 “MEET LIFE” Baby Bottle Campaign

The Missouri State Council Knights of Columbus have always been leaders in respecting the lives of the unborn. The Baby Bottle Campaign is an easy and effective way to raise funds for the Meet Life Campaign helping to reduce the number of abortions and place ultrasound machines in pregnancy resource centers throughout the State of Missouri by the end of 2016. We need every Council and Auxiliary to join us on this "MEET LIFE Baby Bottle Campaign.

Guidelines for a successful fund raiser:

  • First, meet with your pastor to gain his approval and to set a tentative date for the campaign and share with him everything the Knights have done in the campaign and how successful we have been.
  • Request bottles from a Baby Bottle Board diocese coordinator. There are four (4) separate Boards formed within the state each being responsible for the Councils in their respective diocese. These boards are known as:
    • Baby Bottle Board of Metro St. Louis
      • Members: Bob Thalhammer–2951, Matt Nowak–1121, Brian Rash–11139, Dale Werner–14402
    • Baby Bottle Board of Kansas City
      • Members: Larry Pearce-4613, Mike Jarrett-4962, David Chapman-14972
    • Baby Bottle Board of Jefferson City
      • Members: Richard Wieberg-1171, Mitch Passini-2627, Brett Witte-1752
    • Baby Bottle Board of Springfield/Cape Girardeau
      • Members: David Buckley–10200, John Nabity–12650, Dr Milton Eichmann–1706, Brian Ziegler–6420
    • These boards are to be used to encourage and assist Knights of Columbus Councils conducting a successful Baby Bottle Campaign in their Parishes
  • Select a Knight who is comfortable with public speaking to make a pulpit presentation
  • Place a full page ad in the church bulletin the week before the presentation
  • Make sure you have several Knights to hand out bottles after Mass
  • Distribute bottles to your church organizations (the Parish school, PSR, Scouts, etc., and don't forget the Ladies Auxiliary)
  • Use your bulletin for reminders to bring their bottles back on a designated date bottles (around four weeks) and have Knights in the back of church to receive the bottles
  • When the Campaign is over please return the bottles to your diocesan coordinator
    • Keep in mind bottles will continue to trickle in so make a plan to get remaining funds turned in
  • Make your check payable to Columbian Charities of Missouri Inc. and mail to Meet Life Coordinator Lou Holtmann

One Life, One Rose

Our Lady of Guadalupe Silver Rose Run

Our Lady of Guadalupe Silver Rose Run – One Life, One Rose

Beginning in April 2015, six Silver Roses will begin their journey across North America, from Canada to the United States to Mexico. One Rose begins in British Columbia and heads south along the Pacific coast before winding path through the southwest and mountain states before reaching Texas. A second rose starts in Alberta entering the United States in North Dakota and travelling through the northern US Rockies and the Great Plains on its way toward Texas. A third rose starts its run in Manitoba, moving south through the central United States and along the Mississippi before turning to Texas. A fourth Rose begins its journey in Ontario moving through some of the Mid-Atlantic States before ending in Washington, D.C. A fifth Rose begins in Virginia and journeys throughout the south on its way to Texas. A sixth Rose starts in New Brunswick and travels throughout the northeast, completing its journey in Connecticut. The 2015 Our Lady of Guadalupe Silver Rose - One Life, One Rose Program will conclude on December 12, 2015 on the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the Americas, at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Monterrey, Mexico.

2015 marks the 56th year of the program which began in 1960 as a project of the Columbian Squires of North America to honor the Blessed Virgin under her title of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the Americas. The program has continued since then as a project of Columbian Squires circles, councils and Fourth Degree assemblies in several jurisdictions.

In 2001 Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson expanded the program by beginning the “Running of the Rose” from the 119th Annual Meeting of the Supreme Council in Toronto. “The ‘Running of the Rose’ is a perfect program for the Knights of Columbus,” said Supreme Knight Anderson. “Through it we honor not only Our Lady of Guadalupe and express the unity of the Order, but we also reaffirm the Order’s dedication to the sanctity of human life. It is to the Blessed Mother that we turn in prayer as we work to end the Culture of Death that grips our society. As we think in terms of ‘One Life, One Rose,’ it is most appropriate that we turn to Our Lady of Guadalupe who made known her will through Juan Diego and the miracle of the roses.”

In 2015, The Third Silver Rose will start its run on April 26th in Manitoba working way through Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa and Illinois before entering Missouri on August 9th in St. Louis, MO. From St. Louis it will travel to St. Charles, Troy, Hannibal, Moberly, Jefferson City, Sedalia, Laurie, Hermitage, Springfield, Marshfield, Rolla, St Clair, Potosi, House Springs, Bloomsdale and Jackson, ending its Missouri run in Sikeston on August 30th. The Rose will be transferred to Columbia, Kentucky for the next leg of its journey where it will then pass through Tennessee, Arkansas and Texas before entering Mexico. You can view the entire Silver rose Run itinerary on our State Council calendar.  The Story Behind the Running of the Silver Rose

Our Lady of Guadalupe has done so much for her people and country that an assembly of young men called the Columbian Squires associated with the Knights of Columbus wanted to give something back to her.
