Missouri State Essay Contest
Topic: The Importance of Religious Freedom
The Missouri State Essay Contest has been aligned with the Supreme Council's Essay Contest. The contest is open to all Catholic students in the state of Missouri, public, private, or home schooled, grades 5-12. Councils should order the Essay Contest Kit (EA-Kit) from Supreme.
Essays must be 500-750 words in length and must be typed on 8.5 X 11 paper, one sided, double spaced, with one inch margins. Judging will be based on Overall Impression, Content, Grammar, and Style. The student's name should appear only on the official Knights of Columbus Entry Form. This form should be stapled to the essay.
All entries in each grade must be submitted to the local Council for the first round of judging, and only one winner in each grade is to be forwarded by the council for judging on the state level, a maximum of eight essays per Council.
Winners from each grade (5-12) will be awarded a plaque from the Missouri State Council. There will be a first place winner in each of the eight grades. All entrants who qualify for State judging will receive a certificate of participation from the State Council. It is recommended that local Councils also provide awards for council winners, along with the certificates that are provided in the Essay Kit.
- Winners from grades 8-12 will be forwarded to Supreme for the International Competition.
The winning entries for each grade, each with the official Knights of Columbus Entry Form stapled to it, must be submitted to the State Chairman by January 31st, 2016.
All necessary forms, promotional materials, and certificates are in the Essay Contest Kit (EA-Kit) available upon request from Supreme at kofc.org.
